 2008 Potentate - Roy Jones  About Omar Shrine Temple. The Temple is located at Patriots Point, in Mt. Pleasant, SC, just east of historic Charleston, SC. Our membership of 4000 is part of an international fraternity of approximately 500,000 members belonging to the Shrine of North America, which is located throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada and Panama. We gather in Myrtle Beach many times each year, particularly in Spring and Fall for these Bi-Annual Barbecue Competitions. Once attracting only Carolinians, these events now pull from all over the country. The Shrine's official philanthropy is Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of 22 hospitals that provide expert, no-cost orthopedic and burn care to children under 18.
